Fort Worth police are investigating a shooting that injured a man early Thursday, officials said.

Officers responded to the intersection of Hemphill Street and West Cantey Street shortly after midnight regarding a shooting call. They found a man with a gunshot wound to the left leg, police said.

The officers were told that the victim and several other people were at a nearby homeless encampment. The victim walked away from the area, and minutes later the others heard gunshots.

The witnesses told police that they looked for the man and found him in a nearby field with a gunshot wound. The victim couldn’t describe the suspect, police said, and wasn’t forthcoming with more information.

The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His injury isn’t life-threatening, according to police.

No suspects are in custody, but police said several people have been detained. The Gun Violence Unit is investigating the shooting.
