Fossil Ridge High School, in the Keller school district, was placed on secure “hold” status Monday after a report of a gun on campus, according to school officials and police.

After a search of the school, the gun was found and a student was detained by a school resource officer, Keller ISD officials said in a message to parents.

Authorities determined that all students and staff were safe, and no injuries were reported in the incident. The school, at 4101 Thompson Road, is in the Fort Worth city limits.

The gun was discovered after school officials received a tip from a student, according to the email sent to parents.

When a school is on hold status, the hallways are cleared and students stay where they are until an all-clear is given.

“We encourage you to take this opportunity to remind your own students that no weapons of any type, nor anything resembling a weapon, are allowed at school,” school officials said in a statement. “Bringing these prohibited items onto school grounds is a violation of the Keller ISD Code of Conduct and state law, and consequences can include criminal charges.

“Throughout Keller ISD, the safety of our students is our top priority, and we are thankful that proper action taken by students and staff allowed law enforcement to intervene.”
