WATCH: Police search for driver of stolen car who rammed officer’s SUV in North Texas chase
White Settlement police are searching for a suspect they say rammed an officer’s vehicle during a chase on Sunday.
Shortly before 2 p.m., the White Settlement Police Department was notified by the Fort Worth police Real Time Crime Center that a car that had been reported stolen was headed north on South Las Vegas Trail into White Settlement.
A Flock Safety license plate reader tracked the stolen vehicle, a black Jeep Liberty SUV, which pulled into a restaurant parking lot in the 8500 block of West Freeway, White Settlement police said in a news release. When two officers arrived at the restaurant, they found the Jeep unoccupied, and Fort Worth police said via radio that the male driver was fleeing on foot.
The officers drove their marked patrol units in the direction the driver was running, police said, while a female passenger ran towards a motel on the Interstate 30 service road.
The male suspect turned around, ran back to the stolen Jeep and jumped inside, police said. An officer positioned a police Tahoe behind the Jeep, and the suspect reversed and rammed the Tahoe, according to the release. The officer was not injured.
Officers pursued the Jeep west on I-30 as the suspect drove at excessive speeds while passing other vehicles on the shoulder of the freeway, police said. A supervisor told officers to stop the chase because of the suspect’s reckless driving.
White Settlement officers met up with officers from Westworth Village and Lakeside, and they took the 33-year-old female passenger into custody at the motel. She faces a charge of methamphetamine possession.
Fort Worth police found the stolen Jeep abandoned in the 1700 block of Shade Tree St., in the Walsh Ranch neighborhood.
Investigators released a photo of the male suspect and asked anyone with information on his identity to contact police at 817-246-4973 or Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS.
On Monday night, police said tips had helped identify the man as 33-year-old Adam John Goras III, but he was not in custody.
The image shows the clothing the suspect was wearing immediately prior to the police chase, including a shirt that said, “Young and Reckless.”
“The reckless disregard for the rule of law was on full display Sunday when this suspect ran on foot, rammed a police officer’s vehicle, and endangered our community by fleeing in a stolen car,” Chief of Police Christopher Cook said in the release.
