Texas DPS identifies man shot to death in confrontation with Benbrook police officers
Authorities have identified a man who was shot and killed by Benbrook police officers last week.
Kenneth Brandon MacArthur Woods, 36, died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Woods was shot by officers who responded to a 911 call at an apartment in the 5600 block of Bellaire Drive South about 11:45 a.m. on July 24, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The woman who called 911 said she was inside the apartment with several young children and her adult son, Woods, who was refusing to allow her and the children to leave, DPS said.
Investigators said that Woods fired multiple gunshots in the apartment and then jumped from a second-floor window. He was armed with a handgun and did not comply with officers’ commands to take his hands off the gun, police said.
At that point, “officers used deadly force,” DPS said in the release. Police have not said how many officers fired their weapons.
Woods was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room about 2 p.m.
The Texas Rangers, a division of DPS, are investigating the shooting at the request of the Benbrook Police Department. DPS said in a statement Monday that no further information will be released at this time.
