Hammer-wielding man suspected in several Dallas-Fort Worth assaults arrested, police say
A man who was wanted by authorities in connection to multiple assaults was arrested early Thursday morning, Plano police said in a news release.
In response to a tip, Dallas police responded to a residence in Dallas to confirm the information and locate the suspect. After obtaining an arrest warrant, Plano police took 26-year-old Charles Maurice Murray into custody without incident at around 12:30 a.m. and transported him to the Plano City Jail.
He faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge in an attack that happened Tuesday, according to police.
At around 7 p.m. Tuesday, a victim was attacked by Murray in the 600 block of Coit Road, according to Plano police. During the incident, Murray used a hammer to hit the victim several times, police said in a news release. Following the attack, Murray fled with the hammer in his hand, the release states.
Investigators believe the suspect is also responsible for similar, unprovoked attacks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area within 24 hours and it is unknown why these victims were targeted, police say.
Murray was seen on surveillance video wearing similar clothing during each of the offenses, police said. It is also believed he was traveling the area using DART transportation.
Murray is being held at the Collin County Detention Center. The Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating the case.
