Man arrested in deadly Mansfield shooting police say began as dispute between woman’s exes
A man is charged with murder in a fatal shooting that Mansfield police say started as a domestic dispute involving two men who had dated the same woman, according to a news release Wednesday.
At around 9 p.m. Tuesday, Mansfield police responded to a shooting on Monticello Drive. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound, according to the release.
The suspect fled before officers arrived, police say.
Officers performed life-saving measures until medics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died, according to police.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 38-year-old James Lynn Williams III. He died from a gunshot wound to his chest.
The suspect, identified by police as 38-year-old Steven Shane Foster, was found at a residence in Midlothian, southeast of Mansfield, around 11 p.m. and taken into custody without incident.
Police say the domestic shooting involved an ex-fiance (Foster), and ex-boyfriend (Williams) of a woman who was at the Mansfield residence where the victim was found.
Foster faces charges of murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence. He was being held Thursday in the Tarrant County Jail with bond set at $380,000. It’s not clear whether he has an attorney.
The investigation is ongoing.
