Dallas police officer shot in leg while serving capital murder warrant; suspect wounded
A Dallas police officer serving a capital murder warrant was shot in the leg Thursday morning. A suspect was also shot during the exchange of gunfire, officials said.
Dallas Police Department officers serving on the U.S. Marshals Task Force attempted to serve a capital murder arrest warrant at an apartment in the 9900 block of Adleta Boulevard around 6 a.m., police said.
“They knocked, they announced, and as they began to breach the door, they were immediately met with gunfire from the suspect,” said Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia at a Thursday morning press conference.
One of the officers was shot in the lower leg. The officers backed away from the apartment. There was a second exchange of gunfire, Garcia said, and the suspect was wounded.
The suspect was taken into custody and then transported to a local hospital in critical condition, according to Garcia. Police haven’t released the suspect’s name or said who the suspect is accused of killing in the capital murder case.
The officer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His name hasn’t been released.
“Our officer will be fine,” Garcia said. “He’s in good spirits.”
Garcia said the department will release more information Monday regarding the shooting.
