7-year-old shot in bed by gunfire outside his home dies at hospital, Dallas police say

A 7-year-old boy was fatally shot in his bed when gunfire came into his apartment from outside, according to Dallas police.

The shooting was reported about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 8000 block of Rothington Road. Detectives determined the gunfire came from outside the home, police said in a news release Friday.

The 7-year-old, Kyrie Barnes, was taken to a hospital Sunday in critical condition, and he died Wednesday, police said. No one else inside the apartment was injured.

Kyrie’s family provided police with a photo of the child and gave permission for the use of his name in the hope that anyone with information on this case will contact the Dallas Police Department.
