A man was shot to death on Monday morning in east Fort Worth, authorities said.

A 52-year-old man was shot to death during an argument on Monday at a house in east Fort Worth, police said.

Mika Washington was shot in the head about 9:45 a.m. in the 4800 block of Richardson Street, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

During the argument, the suspect pulled a handgun and shot Washington, Fort Worth police said. Homicide detectives are investigating and are speaking with a cooperative witness who was also at the scene during the killing.

Washington, who was known to his relatives and friends as “Cole,” had a positive outlook despite health challenges including illnesses affecting his kidneys and heart, his mother told WFAA-TV. She said her son died in his home’s garage.

Police did not announce an arrest.

“This is where Cole grew up,” Barbara Washington told WFAA. “We never thought anything like this would happen to Cole, especially right here in his home.”

Washington’s death was the 36th homicide this year in Fort Worth. In 2022, there were 43 homicides in the city between Jan. 1 and June 5.
