Three children among five people shot at apartment building in eastern Dallas County

Five members of a family were shot on Sunday as they sat in a car at an apartment building in Sunnyvale, a town in eastern Dallas County, police said.

Two adults and three children were fired upon about 6 p.m. in the 200 block of Planters Road at the Riverstone Apartments, Sunnyvale police said.

A woman died at the scene. The other victims’ injuries were serious but not life-threatening, WFAA-TV reported. The children are between 8 and 10. Police did not describe the precise relationships among the victims.

Police did not announce an arrest. After the shooting, the assailants left in a black vehicle and drove to Mesquite, police said.

The assailants, a man and a woman, followed the victims’ car into a parking lot, where one of the assailants got out and opened fire into the victims’ car, according to the WFAA report.
