2nd suspect arrested in Dallas shooting that killed young woman, injured man, police say
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a Dallas shooting that killed a young woman and injured a man, the Dallas Police Department announced Wednesday.
Dallas police arrested 21-year-old Dax Rakestraw on April 26 on a charge of murder.
A 17-year-old suspect, Johnny Garcia, was arrested April 19 and also faces a murder charge in connection with the shooting.
Police found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds in the 2600 block of Ingersoll Street, in the Ledbetter area of West Dallas, on April 11.
Both victims were taken to a hospital, where the woman — identified by police as 21-year-old Aureanna Hernandez — died from her injuries. She was the mother of a 2-year-old, the Dallas Morning News reported.
The man who was shot remained in the hospital in stable condition, police said in the initial news release.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, two shooters got out of a car and fired automatic rifles at the victims, the Morning News reported. The victims were standing by a car that belongs to a person Garcia had threatened in the past, the affidavit said.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting was asked to contact Detective Kimberly Mayfield at 214-671-3646 or at kimberly.mayfield@dallaspolice.gov.
