A man was critically injured on Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle as he crossed a street in east Fort Worth, police said.

The pedestrian had been walking in the road and began to cross East Berry Street between Candace Court and Lauretta Drive when he was hit about 5:30 p.m., Fort Worth police said.

The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, police said.

The vehicle, which police did not describe beyond indicating that it carries passengers, had been traveling east on East Berry Street.

The driver, Jayvion Jackson-Burney, left the scene without stopping and rendering aid, police said. Officers later arrested Jackson-Burney, 17, on suspicion of accident involving injury or death.
