Alvarado man who was intoxicated in crash sentenced in deaths of man, pregnant woman
A man who was intoxicated when he crashed into a car whose driver who had stopped on a service road to help with a flat tire, killing a man and a pregnant woman, was sentenced on Monday to 18 years in prison.
Judge Wayne Salvant sentenced Adan Hermosillo Garcia to the term after he pleaded guilty in Tarrant County Criminal District Court No. 2 to three counts of intoxication manslaughter and three counts of failure to stop and render aid – accident involving death.
Justin Dike and Alexius Mills, both 28, died in the Oct. 16, 2021, crash on the Texas 360 service road at the Ragland Road exit, near the borders of Mansfield, Arlington and Grand Prairie. Doctors delivered Mills’ child, and the boy died of injuries he suffered in the crash, authorities have said.
Dike’s car had a flat tire, and he pulled to the side of the service road, police have said. Dike called and asked Mills to bring him another tire. When she arrived, Mills stopped directly behind Dike’s car.
As the cars were parked, a sport utility vehicle driven by Hermosillo Garcia, 32, of Alvarado, struck the rear of Mills’ car, causing a chain-reaction crash. Hermosillo Garcia left the scene on foot and was arrested a short time later.
Dike, who lived in Fort Worth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mills, who lived in Euless, died at a hospital.
