Man shot by Fort Worth officers dies in ICU; police say he tried to abduct wife and kids
A 31-year-old man, who was shot and critically wounded by Fort Worth officers after police say he tried to abduct his family at gunpoint last week, has died.
Alejandro Molina Cornelio remained hospitalized for nearly a week prior to succumbing to his injuries Tuesday night. Molina Cornelio died from multiple gunshot wounds at a local ICU, according to the medical examiner’s office.
On June 29, Molina Cornelio tried to use a shotgun to abduct his estranged wife and their children in the 3200 block of Olive Place, then returned for a second attempt while pursued by officers, police said.
Responding officers were in the process of moving the victims to another location, but because of Molina Cornelio’s proximity to the scene, the police decided to block off streets to keep him away from the house.
After he avoided at least one police roadblock, police dashboard-camera footage shows the suspect’s truck making a wide turn and ramming police vehicles before one of the officers pursuing it rammed the left side of the truck bed.
The video includes audio that sounds like police firing gunshots. It is not yet clear based on the video and information released by police whether Molina Cornelio fired at police or if he showed a gun to officers, prompting them to open fire. Police previously said a shotgun was recovered from his vehicle.
