Police: Carjacking pursuit closes most of west 820 at Boulevard 26 in North Richland Hills
A vehicle crash that came as North Richland Hills police were pursuing a carjacking suspect had all but one lane in that city closed on westbound Loop 820 in the area of Boulevard 26, according to a police spokesperson.
Police said in a news release that the man pulled a gun just before 2 p.m. Thursday on a driver on the westbound Loop 820 service road in the 6400 block and took the car.
The carjacking victim was not injured, according to police.
The man then led police on a short pursuit down Precinct Line Road before he turned around and headed back to to Loop 820, where he got on the highway going westbound and lost control of the vehicle and crashed, according to police.
The crash happened between the exits for Boulevard 26 and Holiday Lane, according to the news release. The highway was closed for about an hour.
Police arrested the man after the crash, according to a spokesperson. He was checked out by paramedics and cleared as having sustained minor, non-life threatening injures, according to police. They said they found a gun in the stolen vehicle belonging to the suspected carjacker.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, faces charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon for the carjacking and evading in a motor vehicle for the pursuit on which he led police, according to the release.
