Man fatally shoots former college roommate, dies from self-inflicted gunshot in Coppell

A man who shot and killed a woman in Coppell on Wednesday morning died in a hospital after he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said in a news release Wednesday evening.

Police said the woman killed in the murder-suicide was 21-year-old Caitlin Rogers and the man was 20-year-old Nicholas Twining, both of Coppell.

Rogers and Twining were former college roommates, police said, but “no dating relationship has been confirmed.”

Coppell police asked residents Wednesday to avoid the area of Old Town Coppell as they investigated the fatal shooting, which was reported around 11:15 a.m. outside a coffee shop in the 400 block of Houston Street.

Police said they received “several 911 calls regarding a shooting” in that area and witnesses described a man running from the scene.

Staff writer James Hartley contributed to this report.
