44-year-old Arlington man sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing young boy

An Arlington man who had been a youth football coach has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a boy under the age of 14, according to Tarrant County court records.

Carlos Alberto Guzman, 44, was sentenced last month on the charge of indecency/fondling in Criminal District Court No. 4 in Fort Worth.

A possession of child pornography charge against Guzman was dismissed as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Guzman was arrested on July 27, 2018, during a traffic stop.

Arlington police received an initial report from an adult on April 11, 2017, expressing concerns about Guzman’s actions with a child. The child was a 12-year-old boy who Guzman had known.

After a lengthy investigation, authorities took Guzman into custody.

Lex Johnston of Fort Worth, Guzman’s attorney, declined on Tuesday to comment on the case.

Guzman was a former youth football coach in Arlington, and ex-football project committee chairman for the Optimist Club of Arlington.

Optimist Club of Arlington officials have said he left the club in 2016 after the football season, and no allegation of misconduct was presented to any Optimist Club member while or after Guzman was affiliated with the football program or club.

Tarrant County criminal court records indicated that Guzman committed the offense on April 11, 2017.
