Man shot in Sundance Square in Fort Worth while walking with his girlfriend, police say
A 32-year-old man was shot early Saturday in the downtown Fort Worth retail core Sundance Square during an encounter with a man who threatened his girlfriend.
The victim and his girlfriend were on a sidewalk at West 4th and Houston streets about 12:30 a.m. when two men approached, Fort Worth police said.
One of the men tried to shake the boyfriend’s hand, but he did not immediately recognize it, the girlfriend said in an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The men split the couple by walking between them. One of the men grabbed the woman’s arm and said “you’re coming with us,” she said.
One of the men hit her boyfriend in his head, perhaps with a gun, and her boyfriend pushed him. One of the assailants opened fire, and the boyfriend was shot.
“I ripped his shirt off and tied it around his arm to stop the bleeding,” she said. A man who appeared to be homeless removed his shirt for a second tourniquet.
A physician at Texas Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth noted five wounds, the girlfriend said. The victim underwent surgery in his arm, and two rounds remained in his body Saturday afternoon, she said.
Police said that the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Police found one of the suspects nearby, and detectives interviewed him. Police arrested Harry Crossley, 25, of Arlington, on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The girlfriend said that the suspect who was arrested was the accomplice, not the shooter.
Police have not arrested the second suspect.
