Police arrest 19-year-old accused of killing man outside Grand Prairie apartments

Grand Prairie police have arrested a suspect accused of fatally shooting a 26-year-old man on Sept. 26 outside an apartment complex, police said Thursday.

Police arrested 19-year-old Juan Valencia on Wednesday during a traffic stop, according to a Grand Prairie police press release. He is charged with murder with bond set at $500,000. Valencia will be transferred to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center in Dallas.

The victim, Mario Cantarero, was shot at about 2 a.m. in the 600 block of West Pioneer Parkway, Grand Prairie police said. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

A person called police to report that the victim was lying outside a building at the apartment complex.
