Suburban Fort Worth officers shoot man pointing handgun outside business, police say

Two Euless police officers shot a man outside a business Wednesday when he pointed a handgun at one of them, police said.

The 39-year-old man’s condition was stable Thursday. He was to be booked on suspicion of aggravated assault on a public servant, Euless police said.

Before the shooting, the officers were driving through a parking lot in the 400 block of West Airport Freeway and found a vehicle connected to the man, who was wanted for evading arrest, police said.

The officers saw the man leave the business about 9:30 p.m. and walk toward the vehicle. They tried to contact the man, and he pointed a 9mm handgun at one of them, police said. It had been loaded.

The officers fired on the man, whose name police did not release. The officers were not injured. Their department did not release their names.

Euless Fire Department medics took the man to Baylor Grapevine Hospital.

The encounter was recorded by a camera an officer wore. When an investigation is complete, the case will be presented to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. No witnesses had come forward, police said Thursday.

The officers who fired upon the man were placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure.
