Two people shot in West 7th Street district of Fort Worth late Sunday, police say
Two people were shot Sunday night in the West 7th Street entertainment district, police said.
A man and a woman were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, Acting Capt. J Bridges said.
The shooting happened after some kind of argument outside the Velvet Box store on Morton Street. The suspect had not been apprehended as of 3:45 p.m. Monday, Fort Worth police officer Daniel Segura said.
An employee at Velvet Box, who asked her name not be used, said a group of people started fighting outside the store at about 8 p.m. A store security guard asked them to leave, but a man and a woman from the group refused to leave the parking lot. The man was running around yelling, so the employee called 911. She told the dispatcher it was not an emergency, but said she was scared for the woman’s safety. Police said they would send a patrol car.
About 20 minutes later, the employee said, she heard six gunshots from outside Velvet Box, and a man staggered in through the door. The employee pulled three customers to the back of the store and realized the man had been shot. Three men inside the store dragged him to the side of the store and tried to stop his bleeding.
The employee’s boss called 911 again, and police showed up shortly after. The employee said that one of the men who had been fighting in the group had driven away in his car, but came back, got out of his car, and started shooting at the man and the woman who were injured.
