Murder suspect ‘was abusing her, but we didn’t know,’ family of Fort Worth woman says
Keiundra “Kei Kei” Williams called everyone family.
That’s because the 36-year-old Fort Worth woman loved to have a conversation with everyone she met.
“She had so many friends,” her stepmother, Taisha Williams, said Wednesday in a telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Those friends and her family are struggling with their grief over Kei Kei’s murder on Sunday at her home on Carol Oaks Trail in far east Fort Worth.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office hasn’t issued a ruling on the cause of death, but a preliminary police report indicated she died from a gunshot wound to her head.
Her boyfriend, 29-year-old Christopher Belcher, is in custody and faces a charge of murder in the case.
“I had only met him two or three times,” Taisha Williams said. “He was abusing her, but we didn’t know until later. That’s what bothers me now.”
Born and raised in Fort Worth, Kei Kei Williams graduated from Dunbar High School.
Williams worked as a daycare assistant in Fort Worth, but she was taking college classes online to get a degree in childcare, her stepmother said.
Earlier this year, Williams met Belcher — who did not live in Fort Worth — on Facebook, and the friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship.
Within weeks of meeting, Belcher moved in with Williams at an east Fort Worth apartment.
Their relationship ended violently Sunday.
Initially, Fort Worth police responded Sunday morning to a call reporting an attempted suicide in the 1600 block of Carol Oaks Trail.
Belcher met the officers at the apartment.
A woman later identified as Kei Kei Williams was found at the residence with an apparent gunshot wound, Fort Worth police said Monday.
Williams died Sunday afternoon at John Peter Smith Hospital, authorities said.
“The circumstances surrounding this investigation led detectives to believe this is possibly something other than a suicide,” said Fort Worth police spokesman Jimmy Pollozani in a Monday email to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Fort Worth police did not provide any details on the circumstances.
Belcher was arrested and booked into jail on Sunday afternoon.
At the time Belcher was arrested, Williams was still alive, so he was booked into jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Tarrant County Jail records.
Belcher, who now faces a murder charge, remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $80,000 bond. Belcher has no previous criminal history in Tarrant County, according to court records.
Williams’ funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 12 at Antioch Baptist Church, 5420 Cottey St. in Fort Worth.
To help the family with the cost of Williams’ funeral, donations can be made by calling Rev’s Funeral Parlor at 817-536-0200.
“She was so loved,” her stepmother said. “That’s why everyone is taking it so hard.”
