Fort Worth man arrested in woman’s death after reporting shooting as attempted suicide
A Fort Worth man was in jail Monday, accused of assaulting a woman who later died at a local hospital, according to Fort Worth police.
Initially, Fort Worth police responded Sunday morning to a call reporting an attempted suicide in the 1600 block of Carol Oaks Trail.
A woman was found at the residence with an apparent gunshot wound to her head, Fort Worth police said Monday.
The woman died Sunday afternoon at John Peter Smith Hospital, authorities said. She was identified as Keiundra Williams, 36, of Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website on Monday. A ruling on her death is pending an autopsy.
Fort Worth police had responded to the call at the Carol Oaks Apartments shortly before 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Christopher Belcher, 29, who had the same address as Williams, met the officers.
“The circumstances surrounding this investigation led detectives to believe this is possibly something other than a suicide,” said Fort Worth police spokesman Jimmy Pollozani in a Monday email to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Fort Worth police did not provide any details on the circumstances.
Belcher was arrested and booked into jail on Sunday afternoon.
At the time Belcher was arrested, Williams was still alive, so he was booked into jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Tarrant County Jail records.
Belcher remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Monday with $80,000 bond.
Homicide detectives on Monday continued an investigation.
