Carrollton police arrest 18-year-old accused of killing teenager in 85 mph car crash
Carrollton police arrested an 18-year-old Carrollton man on Wednesday after he crashed into a vehicle, killing a teenager and injuring his mother, police said
The crash happened about 1:20 p.m. Aug. 18 in the 2700 block of North Josey Lane, according to a Carrollton police press release. Joe Christopher Gomez is charged with manslaughter after the crash killed 17-year-old Ryan Sihab Islam of Carrollton.
Police say Gomez was driving a Dodge Charger at 85 mph northbound on Josey Lane moments before he hit Islam, who was turning into the Trinity Valley Shopping Center in a Honda Civic. The speed limit in the area was 40 mph. One second before impact, Gomez was driving at 76 mph, police said.
Islam died four days after the crash and his mother, who was driving, was seriously injured.
Gomez is charged with manslaughter for the crash that killed Islam and with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for injuring Islam’s mother.
