19-year-old dies after being found shot in wrecked vehicle in Fort Worth suburb

An apparent traffic accident where a vehicle ended up in the front yard of a River Oaks home early Saturday has turned into a murder investigation, the police chief said.

A River Oaks patrol officer found the victim in the car, and discovered he had been shot, River Oaks Police Chief Chris Spieldenner said in a Monday telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

No one has been arrested in the case as of Monday.

The victim has been identified as Francisco Santos, 19, of Fort Worth, according to officials at the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. A ruling on his death is pending an autopsy.

He died at 1 p.m. Saturday at a Fort Worth hospital.

The River Oaks officer found the wrecked vehicle about 3 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Keith Pumphrey Drive in River Oaks.

“The vehicle had clipped a tree, causing some minor damage,” Spieldenner said. “The vehicle didn’t hit a structure. It just stopped in a front yard.”

The driver found in the vehicle was taken to the local hospital, where he later died. The driver was later identified as Francisco Santos.

“We are still trying to establish where the shooting occurred,” the police chief said. “We are in the early stages of the investigation.”
