Driver shoots at car, striking man in Dallas-area road rage incident, police say

A man who was behind the wheel of a pickup truck Thursday night on a Dallas-area road is accused of firing toward a car that had cut him off in traffic, striking a man.

The victim, who suffered a single gunshot wound, was in stable condition Friday, Garland police said in a news release. The suspect was still at large as of Friday morning.

Officers responded around 9:30 p.m. Thursday to a report of a person with a gunshot wound in the 5700 block of Lavon Drive in Garland, police said. They found the man in the passenger seat of a blue Honda car, police said, and had him transported to a hospital.

An initial investigation revealed the man’s wife was driving the car northbound on Lavon Drive when she changed lanes near Buckingham Road to get around a crash that was blocking the right two lanes of traffic, police said. She reportedly told officers she cut off a silver Dodge Ram truck in the process. And then she alleged the truck began riding up on their tail.

As the suspect tailgated their car, police said, he reached out the window with a handgun, pointing it toward them. He fired multiple shots and hit the victim.

He was last seen in the four-door Dodge Ram in the area of Lavon Drive and the George Bush Freeway, police said. The department shared a pair of dark and blurry photos of the truck.

The shooter is described as being a heavy-set man with no facial hair, police said.

Anyone with information on the road rage shooting is asked to call Garland police at 972-485-4840.
