UT Arlington police give all-clear after search for teen seen carrying gun near campus

The University of Texas at Arlington has canceled a shelter-in-place warning after finding no evidence of a person with a gun on campus, UTA police said Thursday afternoon.

UT Arlington police had issued the shelter-in-place about 3:10 p.m., warning that a teen had reportedly been seen carrying a rifle while walking northbound from the 1200 block of Davis Drive toward the college campus on Thursday afternoon.

Police described the person as a 13-year-old white male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with dark hair and wearing a navy shirt and black pants, according to a UT Arlington police tweet at 3:10 p.m. They instructed everyone on campus to stay in place.

Police later determined there was no armed suspect on campus and the shelter-in-place was lifted less than 30 minutes later.

Shelter in place means anyone on campus should go inside a building and stay inside until receiving the all-clear, police said.
