Woman shot after meeting another woman to fight with crowd present, Bedford police say

A woman was shot in Bedford on Monday afternoon after she said she met up with another woman to fight her with a crowd of people present and someone opened fire, according to police.

The woman showed up at an emergency room with a gunshot wound, police spokesperson Capt. Mike Hager told the Star-Telegram. He was unable to describe her condition but said she was alert.

He also didn’t know her approximate age, or the ages of the other people who were there.

Police haven’t identified a suspect, Hager said Tuesday.

Officers responded around 2:25 p.m. Monday to a report of shots fired in the 2400 block of Woodson Drive, a long and narrow road with a field alongside it. As they were driving to the scene, police said, dispatchers received a report of a woman with a gunshot wound in a hospital. They reportedly found evidence at the scene that indicated a crime had occurred.

The woman who was shot told police she didn’t know who shot her, Hager said. Officers also interviewed a witness who was unable to provide the identity of the shooter.

Hager said over the phone there was “not a whole lot of cooperation.” He had a hard time getting useful information out of them, he said.

“They just either didn’t know or weren’t telling us,” Hager said.
