Three police officers shot in Austin suburb; suspect barricaded in home with family

Three officers were shot in a suburb of Austin, and the suspect remained barricaded inside the house with family members as of Sunday night, the Cedar Park police department said.

At about 4:28 p.m., the Cedar Park police department tweeted that three officers were shot while on a call of a barricaded person.

Harmon said he visited the three officers and they were in stable condition as of 6 p.m. Cedar Park is about 20 miles northwest of Austin.

At 9 p.m., police said at a press conference that the suspect was still barricaded inside the house with three family members, including the suspect’s mother, a juvenile and another person, KXAN news reported.

When officers arrived at the home at 2304 Natalie Cove around 3:10 p.m., they were met with gunfire as they went inside the house and officers shot back, Harmon said at the press conference. The mother had called police and said her son kicked in the door and was acting aggressive.

Police do not know if the suspect was hit by the officers’ gunfire. Officers were in contact with the suspect and the family and negotiating on Sunday night.

“We want to end this peacefully for everybody involved,” Harmon said. “That is our main goal, to bring this to a peaceful resolution.”
