North Texas woman accused of murder in shooting death of estranged husband

A North Texas woman shot and killed her estranged husband over the weekend as he attempted to receive legal custody of their 6-year-old daughter, Little Elm police said.

The girl was not injured in the shooting and she was in temporary foster care under the supervision of officials with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Killed in the shooting was Kyle Laborda, 34, of Huntington Beach, California, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website on Tuesday. He died from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Little Elm police arrested 35-year-old Marianna Bailey at the scene on Saturday afternoon.

Bailey of Little Elm was in the Denton County Jail in Denton on Tuesday in lieu of $1 million bond. She faces a charge of murder in the case, Little Elm police said in a news release.

Little Elm police responded to a shooting call shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Toucan Drive in unincorporated Denton County near Little Elm.

Police arrived and found Laborda lying in the front of the home suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Medical City of Denton hospital, where he died.

Detectives determined that Bailey and Laborda were married, but they had been separated for some time. Laborda was at the home to take legal custody of their daughter at the time of the shooting, Little Elm police said.

Little Elm police did not release any other details.
