Arlington high school student killed while trying to flee from oncoming car, police say

An Arlington high school student died after a car hit him as he was running to escape the oncoming vehicle, Arlington police said.

On Monday at about 2:27 p.m., police responded to the 2100 block of Highbank Drive to reports of a crash. They found a teenager who had been hit by a car, and the car had fled the scene. The teenager was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Detectives believe that a group of people in two cars agreed to meet near Bowie High School to fight. The first car had about five people in it, police said. The second car, a passenger car sedan, arrived at the school and started to drive recklessly on the road in front of the school.

The sedan started accelerating toward the car that had five people inside. The people started to jump out of the car to run away, and the person driving the sedan swerved and hit one of the teenagers as he fled.

The person driving the sedan drove away, Arlington police said. Investigators are still trying to find the suspect.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Julia Hall at 817-459-5325.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the teenager, who attended an Arlington high school, once his family has been told about his death.
