1 dead after 13-year-old driver hits adults, kids in strollers near Dallas, police say

A 13-year-old boy driving a sedan struck three adults and two children Sunday night on a frontage road in Grand Prairie, killing one of them, police said.

Two women and a man were pushing in strollers a 1-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl when all were hit about 9 p.m. on the south frontage road in the 3900 block of State Highway 180, Grand Prairie police said.

Without his parents’ consent, the teenager was driving a Honda Civic west on the frontage road and did not see the pedestrians walking in the same direction, police said.

Maria Hernandez-Gonzalez, 52, died at the scene. She was the legal guardian of the 1-year-old boy. His parents are not able to care for him, police said. The girl is the daughter of the injured adults.

The toddlers were taken with non life-threatening injuries to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

A 25-year-old woman and her 30-year-old husband were taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

All of the people involved in the crash live in Grand Prairie.
