Man who shot wife dies in gunfire exchange with officers in Dallas suburb, police say

A man died Saturday in Irving during an exchange of gunfire with officers who intended to arrest him after his wife said he shot her, police said.

The woman was shot about 10 a.m. in the 800 block of Elwood Road, Irving police said.

The man had left the scene before police arrived. Officers canvassed the area and found him in the backyard of a neighboring property.

When officers entered the backyard, they announced themselves and the man and officers fired their weapons, police said.

The man, whose name and age police did not release, was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

The man’s wife was taken with non life-threatening injuries to a hospital, police said.
