Man arrested after fatally shooting son in front of grandson in DeSoto, police say
A man has been arrested after he shot and killed his adult son in front of his 16-year-old grandson as they fought in Desoto on Friday night, police said.
The teen walked to a neighbor’s home to report the grandfather had shot his father, according to the department. The neighbor called police.
Elijah Moore, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. His father, William Daniel “Bill” Moore, 58, faces a murder charge in connection with his death, police said.
Texas Child Protective Services took custody of the child.
Officers responded to the neighbor’s call in the 200 block of Rob Lane shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday, the department said. They used a ballistic shield to enter the residence, concerned they could need the protection.
They encountered the father, who didn’t resist arrest and told them his son could be found dead further inside the house, police said. Conducting a sweep of the home, police found the son unresponsive on the utility room floor with multiple gunshot wounds. A handgun was nearby.
Police rendered aid and called for DeSoto EMS to assist. Medics were unable to revive the son, the department said.
Officers interviewed the child who witnessed the shooting and the father. They determined William Moore fatally shot his son during a physical altercation, police said.
He was transported to jail.
The department is investigating the shooting.
