Mansfield police find body in abandoned car after woman reports she was carjacked
Mansfield police are investigating after a woman’s body was found in an abandoned car Monday afternoon.
At about 12:59 p.m., a woman called Mansfield police and said she had been carjacked. A suspect took her car at gunpoint in the 1600 block of N. U.S. 287 Frontage Road, she told police.
She told police the suspect had gotten out of a car in the parking lot right before he stole her car. Police checked the abandoned vehicle in the parking lot and found a dead woman in the passenger seat with an apparent gunshot wound, Mansfield police said in a press release.
Investigators ran the abandoned car’s registration, which led them to a location in Fort Worth. They found the woman’s stolen car and a person of interest.
They took the person of interest into custody, but motive and connection to the dead woman were unclear as of Monday evening, police said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the woman once her family has been notified.
