Driver faces intoxication manslaughter charges after 2 killed in Dallas County wreck

Two passengers in a truck were killed early Friday in a crash on a U.S. 80 service road in Sunnyvale, and the driver was in custody facing intoxication manslaughter charges, a Dallas County Sheriff’s Department official said.

The names of the victims had not been released pending notification of relatives.

The suspect who survived the wreck has been identified as Abraham Enrique Gutierrez, according to a news release from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

Gutierrez was in custody at a local hospital and he faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one charge of intoxication assault, said Raul Reyna, a spokesman with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

The fatal crash was reported shortly after 2:30 a.m. on an eastbound U.S. 80 service road near East Fork in Sunnyvale.

Deputies responded to a report of an overturned vehicle. When they arrived, deputies found two vehicles had overturned.

Investigators determined that a truck driven by Gutierrez hit another vehicle from behind, causing both vehicles to lose control on the service road. Alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, according to deputies.

Two passengers in Gutierrez’s truck were taken to a local hospital, where they died, authorities said.

The driver of the car that was hit by the pickup truck suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
