It took a federal jury 7 minutes to convict this man on a child sex crime in Texas
A federal jury in Abilene needed just seven minutes on Monday to convict a man of attempting to entice a boy to engage in a sexual activity.
The “boy” turned out to be an Abilene undercover officer.
Carlito Santos, 47, of Abilene, was found guilty of attempted enticement of a minor.
Santos was arrested in 2019, and indicted on the charge in October.
Santos, who told authorities he had molested at least 15 boys in the Philippines when he worked as a pediatrician, is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
He faces a maximum of life in a federal prison.
In 2019, Abilene police created an online persona of “Tyler,” a 15-year-old boy and placed his profile on Grindr, a social media dating platform for gay men, according to federal authorities.
Santos, a native of the Philippines, sent multiple illicit messages to “Tyler,” and later agreed to meet the teen at an apartment complex in Abilene to engage in oral sex.
When he arrived, Santos was arrested.
During interviews with an investigator with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Santos admitted he had a sexual interest in children because he found them “energetic” and “innocent.”
In one interview with the DPS investigator, Santos said he frequently viewed child pornography and he had molested 15 boys, ages 13 to 15, when he lived in the Philippines.
Federal authorities did not release information on how long Santos had been in the United States.
