Fort Worth police arrest one suspect, looking for others, recorded drag racing

Fort Worth police have arrested a suspect in a drag racing incident on the South Freeway on Wednesday.

The racers were gone when police arrived in the 1000 block of the South Freeway, where the incident occurred, but an officer north of the area was able to identify the female suspect following a traffic stop, according to a news release.

The suspected driver, Zariyah Mazique, 19, was arrested on multiple criminal charges which include obstructing a highway, a Class B misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $2,000 fine upon conviction, the release said. Police say Mazique’s birthday was Friday.

A video recording of the racing incident was posted on social media implicating several other drivers and a criminal investigation is ongoing, the release said.

“FWPD does not tolerate this type of behavior and it shows a complete lack of respect for the safety and welfare of everyone on the public roadway,” the release said.
