Fort Worth-area teen accused of capital murder in shooting death of 66-year-old woman
A 17-year-old was in custody and accused in the shooting death of a 66-year-old woman in her North Richland Hills apartment, North Richland Hills police said. Friday.
The teen is accused of breaking into the apartment of Peggy Barnes Franklin and fatally shooting her. He also wounded another woman, police said. Two juveniles who were in the apartment were not injured.
North Richland Hills police identified the suspect as Roel Jose Cano Jr., who faces charges of capital murder and burglary of a habitation with intent to comit a felony.
Cano, of North Richland Hills, was booked into the city jail.
North Richland Hills police did not release any details on the arrest.
Police responded to a call shortly before 2 a.m. on April 24 that someone was breaking into an apartment in the 3300 block of Willowcrest Drive in North Richland Hills.
When they arrived, police found a woman with apparent gunshot wounds dead at the scene.
Franklin died from gunshot wounds to her head, according to officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Another woman was wounded and she was taken to a local hospital.
Cano was in the North Richland Hills Jail on Friday in lieu of $1,753,000 bond.
