Fort Worth-area man indicted for assault dies by suicide inside Tarrant County Jail
A 50-year-old Haltom City man was found hanging inside the Tarrant County Jail and declared dead by suicide on Sunday, according to Tarrant County authorities.
Dean Ray Stewart was arrested on April 5 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to records filed with the Tarrant County District Clerk’s Office. Bond was set at $20,000, records show.
Stewart was indicted Friday on the assault charge. According to a Euless Police Department investigation, Stewart allegedly fired a weapon at or in the direction of another man who was traveling in a vehicle, Tarrant County District Clerk records show.
Health care workers at the jail attempted to revive Stewart, but were unsuccessful, a news release from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said.
Pending charges against Stewart were dismissed Monday, Tarrant County records show.
The Texas Rangers will be conducting an investigation into Stewart’s death, the release said.
