Gunman ambushed 16-year-old in Dallas-area parking lot, left him dead, warrant says
A teenage gunman and other suspects ambushed a 16-year-old early Friday, shooting him to death in an Irving apartment parking lot, Irving police said Monday.
After the shooting, the suspects ran away from the scene, but video surveillance at the apartment complex captured images of the suspects.
On Saturday, Irving detectives arrested the person they believe is the gunman in the deadly shooting. He has been identified as Lucio Anthony Celis, 17.
He was in the Irving Jail on Monday, facing a charge of capital murder.
Irving police believe there are at least two and possibly three other people involved in the case who are still at large, and a search continued on Monday for them.
The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Irving police have not released his name.
An arrest warrant written by Irving Detective Kevin Burkleo gave this brief account of the shooting:
Video surveillance at an apartment complex in the 700 block of South Story Road showed three suspects and possibly a fourth walking through the complex courtyard.
One suspect can be seen brandishing a handgun. They all hang around the stairs of the apartment complex.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Friday, the victim drives into the apartment parking lot in a Buick Regal and parks.
Several minutes later, the surveillance camera shows three suspects approach the Regal slowly. They then go out of view of the camera.
Seconds later, the three suspects are seen running away from the scene. The gunman got into a 1998 Toyota Camry and drove away.
Detectives tracked down the suspected gunman’s address and began surveillance on it.
On Saturday, Celis got into the Toyota and was stopped by tactical officers when he ran a stop sign.
