Capital murder warrant issued for suspect in Tarrant County convenience store killing

Law enforcement authorities on Thursday released the name of a man accused of shooting to death a Tarrant County convenience store employee last week and said he was not in custody.

A capital murder warrant was issued for Christopher Turner, 44, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said.

Turner wore a surgical mask and one glove when he allegedly shot Anwar Ali, 62, during a robbery March 27. Ali may not have been alarmed by someone entering the store wearing a surgical mask because that has become a measure an increasing number of people have taken during the coronavirus pandemic, the sheriff’s office said.

Another person who was in the store just before the shooting was arrested Tuesday. Joseph Allen, 28, was booked into the jail on suspicion of capital murder in the case.

Anwar Ali’s body was found in a bathroom at the Super Big Country Mart in the 4500 block of East FM 1187, in an unincorporated area of the county. Ali was shot about 6:15 a.m., about an hour before he was discovered, the sheriff’s office said.

Ali, of Euless, was shot in the head and neck, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Anyone with information about Turner or his whereabouts was asked to call the sheriff’s office at 817-884-1213.
