‘Stop! Stop!’ Police officer pulls suicidal woman from the edge of a Fort Worth bridge
A police officer pulled from the edge of a Fort Worth bridge a distressed woman who had begun Thursday morning to climb over it.
The woman’s brother had called 911 and indicated she was suicidal and near the Lake Worth Bridge, police said.
Fort Worth police officer Teresa Trevino saw a car parked on a shoulder of Northwest Loop 820 at Quebec Street.
As she pulled her patrol car behind the car, the driver got out and walked to the bridge’s edge.
“Stop! Stop!” Trevino yelled as she ran to the woman about 10:15 a.m.
The officer pulled the woman from the bridge and took her into custody.
Police on Friday released video of the encounter recorded by Trevino’s body camera.
“Officer Trevino’s heroics serve as a reminder to everyone who may struggle with emotional distress,” the Fort Worth Police Department said in a news release. “Suicide prevention is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (800-273-8255).
