Dallas-area police recover 595 pounds of meth, valued at $1.2M, from tractor trailer
A drug-sniffing dog helped Lewisville police officers recover around 595 pounds of methamphetamine this weekend, one of the largest busts in the department’s history.
The estimated street value of the meth is more than $1.2 million, police said in a news release.
Around 3 p.m. on Sunday, Pat Robey, a Lewisville K-9 officer, was called to help another agency investigate an anonymous tip there was a suspicious tractor trailer parked near a major highway, police said. Robey then reportedly instructed his K-9 partner, Stryker, to conduct a “free air sniff” of the trailer. Stryker smelled illegal narcotics.
Agencies brought the trailer to the Lewisville Police Department to search, police said. Officers located the nearly 600 pounds of meth in a hidden compartment.
Photos from the department show packages of meth stacked high in the back of two pickup trucks.
Police didn’t immediately respond to a question about if anyone was charged in connection with the bust.
Police didn’t say where the trailer had been located.
The bust was the largest of Stryker’s career in addition to being one of the largest in department history.
