Two vehicles torched on Hulen Street; Fort Worth man arrested on arson charges
An arsonist set fire to two vehicles that were just across the street from each other on Hulen Street early Monday morning, a fire department official said.
No injuries were reported in the fires, which were set in the 4900 block of Hulen Street.
A 41-year-old Fort Worth man detained at the scene is a suspect in the case, fire officials said.
Kwunte Campbell, 41, was booked into the Fort Worth Jail on Monday morning, according to jail records. He faces charges of arson in the vehicle fires, and additional charges are pending related to fire damage to a building and a dumpster.
At about 11 p.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a dumpster fire at 4760 S. Hulen St. and remained on the scene until 1 a.m. Monday, according to fire officials.
A police officer on routine patrol in the neighborhood found a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of Enterprise Rental Center, 4901 S. Hulen St., at about 1:30 a.m.
As officers tried to extinguish that fire, a resident alerted authorities to a second vehicle fire across the street in front of Sears Auto Center, 4950 S. Hulen St. The fire also caused damage to the building. Firefighters were dispatched to that fire.
Minutes later, other responding police officers detained a suspicious person near the scene.
Evidence was located at the scene that linked the suspicious person later identified as Kwunte Campbell to the fires. Authorities did not comment on the evidence or a motive for the fires.
