Charged with murder and on bond, woman steals pistol from store, prosecutors allege
A woman charged with murder in an October killing in Fort Worth stole a pistol from a firearms dealer 40 days after she was released on bond, authorities allege.
Altynesha Alexander, 20, took the Ruger from a table at the store, Defenders Outdoors, in Fort Worth on Jan. 7, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Alexander was arrested Tuesday and has been charged in U.S. District Court with theft of a firearm from a licensed dealer.
She was identified with facial recognition software, according to a criminal complaint written by a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives special agent. The Fort Worth Police Department’s Intelligence Exchange Section matched a surveillance camera image of the suspect’s face to Alexander, the special agent wrote.
A second person was with Alexander at the store and also stole a pistol, according to the criminal complaint.
Alexander was charged on Nov. 27 with murder in the shooting death of Jaylon Hardemon, 20, on East Robert Street near South Riverside Drive. Hardemon was shot in the head and died against a curb outside of the Valley at Cobb Park apartments.
Alexander was released from custody on Nov. 28. A magistrate judge had set her bond at $100,000.
Two other suspects, Freddie Scott, 20, and Antwan Griffin-Swanson, 21, were charged with murder in connection with Hardemon’s death on Oct. 29.
Police have declined to release a motive in the killing.
In her initial appearance in the firearm theft case, Alexander was ordered detained and is in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
