More than 800 crimes reported in Fort Worth in first week of December, crime map shows
More than 800 crimes were reported in Fort Worth over the first week of December, including more than 100 thefts and vehicle burglaries, according to a Star-Telegram crime map created with data from the city.
The interactive map, part of an effort to track and visualize crime, shows the locations of all 827 offenses with multi-colored dots, and clicking a dot causes information on the crime to pop up. The most common crimes on the map are thefts (149 incidents) and vehicle burglaries (105 incidents), but there are also plenty of assaults (81), incidents of criminal mischief (76) and penal code violations (72).
The map includes one case of arson — which occurred Dec. 1 on Las Vegas Trail — as well as one case of assaulting the elderly, three cases of prostitution and seven cases of driving while intoxicated. Additionally, there were seven reported robberies of individuals and five reported assaults by threats, the map shows.
The map includes filters for different crimes and selecting a filter allows users to only see the occurrences of that reported crime.
The Star-Telegram hopes to produce weekly crime maps after creating a map displaying all reported crimes in Fort Worth in November.
Also, the Star-Telegram produced a map showing the locations of the roughly 1,100 car crashes from Nov. 9 to Dec. 9, including eight fatal crashes. The accident database is updated daily.
