3 suspects arrested after 71-year-old woman tased, robbed in Burleson parking lot
Two women wanted for allegedly using a taser on a 71-year-old woman in a Burleson parking lot and stealing her purse have been found and arrested, as well as a man accused of helping them carry out the robbery, police said.
The department announced the arrests on Facebook on Friday, more than a week after the Nov. 27 robbery. And for the first time police said the elderly woman had her 5-year-old grandchild in the car with her at the time of the attack.
Nakayla Wright and Traci Cahill, of Fort Worth, were taken into custody Thursday, while Jason Simmons, of Arlington, was taken into custody Friday, police said. They were all charged with aggravated robbery and credit card/debit card abuse of the elderly.
Wright is being held on a $60,000 bond and Cahill is being held on a $50,000 bond, according to online Tarrant County inmate records. It’s unclear what Simmons’ bond has been set at.
Around 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 27, police said, the 71-year-old victim was getting out of her car in the parking lot of a Ross store on Burleson Boulevard when she was approached by the two women. Wright shocked the victim with a stun gun, police said, and took her purse.
Wright and Cahill then reportedly fled in a white SUV parked nearby. An investigation revealed the 71-year-old woman’s credit cards were used later that day at two different retail shops in Arlington and Mansfield, police said.
Reviewing security footage at these shops, officers determined a third subject was in the SUV during the robbery. All three suspects got out of the car together before they entered the shops, police said.
Police obtained security photos of all three suspects and posted them to the department’s Facebook page. The department also warned people to be careful in parking lots, not lingering in their cars, and said it has increased patrols in this shopping area and other key shopping areas during the Christmas season.
Police wrote on Facebook about the arrests of Cahill and Wright on Thursday, and shared a new post Friday saying all three had been arrested.
