17-year-old charged with sexually assaulting woman walking to apartment in Grapevine

Grapevine police arrested a 17-year-old suspected of sexually assaulting a woman Sunday.

Antony Gonzalez-Acosta was charged with one count of sexual assault. Grapevine police said Gonzalez-Acosta ran up behind a woman who was walking back to her apartment in the 3000 block of Mustang Drive at about 11:50 p.m.

Gonzalez-Acosta grabbed the woman’s genital area, police said in a press release. She was able to run away and call 911.

Police reviewed surveillance footage of the parking lot and saw Gonzalez-Acosta run at the victim. Neighbors helped police identify Gonzalez-Acosta on Monday and police pulled him over for a traffic violation. They saw clothes he wore during the assault inside the car, police said.

Gonzalez-Acosta confessed to the sexual assault, according to Grapevine police.

Grapevine police investigated eight other assaults in the area — seven occurred on Mustang Drive and one was reported on Main Street. Police said the investigation into all related sexual assaults on Mustang Drive and Main Street is now closed and they are not searching for other suspects.

Since the first report, police increased patrols in the area, alerted residents, informed apartment managers and hosted free self-defense classes for women.

In the press release, police said they appreciate the victims who came forward and those who called in tips about the attacks, including the Department of Public Safety for creating a suspect sketch and local news media for helping warn the public.
