A missing 11-year-old girl was found safe in Allen on Monday afternoon, police said.
Maria Villanueva, the 11-year-old girl who was reported missing Sunday, had been in contact with police who were trying to find her, said Allen police Sgt. Jon Felty in a Monday telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“Everyone is working for a resolution,” Felty said Monday morning.
At 2:15 p.m. Monday, Allen police said on Facebook that Maria was found and was safely in custody.
“Thanks to all the Allen citizens who assisted in her being located. All citizens should be proud of the serving our community spirit in Allen,” the post said.
Felty emphasized Maria was not in danger and she was not harmed, but he did not provide any other details.
Officials with Child Protective Services also have been involved in the investigation, Felty said.
Maria was reported missing at about 6 a.m. Sunday.
At about 4 p.m. Sunday, Allen police said the lead investigator and Maria’s brother were in contact with Maria and discussing her return home.
